PROCESS DESIGN PROCESS (PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

My design process varies from project to project of course, but I am almost always initially inspired by one of the “spatial dramaturgy” photographs that I have been collecting for years (see PROCESS / SPATIAL DRAMATURGY for more). Below are some examples of design processes for a wide variety of productions in terms of scale and genre. Looking back on these productions, I am amused to realize that many of them were inspired by the same visual reference / spatial dramaturgy images. For example, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Once On This Island”, and “Native Gardens” are all examples of productions that explore ideas of embedded layers of architectural storytelling; “Dermot Kennedy”, “Blue Man Group”, “Bliss, School Girls…”, “Native Gardens”, “Lana Del Rey”, and “Caroline, or Change” all deal with trees in some way; and a discarded cut photograph inspired “Next To Normal”, “Good Grief”, and “Caroline, or Change”.
